The International Manufacturing Technology Show returns to Chicago’s McCormick Place from September 14 through 19, 2026, featuring more than 1.2 million square feet of exhibition space and over 1,800 exhibitors. The event, the largest manufacturing technology show in the Western Hemisphere, will highlight foundational machine tools alongside emerging innovations in AI, automation, and digital manufacturing.
A major machinery manufacturer will bring an immersive experience to the show floor, featuring live CNC machining demonstrations paired with collaborative robots. One key demonstration centers on a dual-table, dual-spindle machining center, where a robot will load raw material and unload finished components in real time while machining custom parts. Additional demonstrations include aerospace component machining and zero-point fixture change technology for low-volume, high-mix production environments.
Major CNC manufacturers are introducing new multitasking and five-axis machining centers at the show. New models include multitasking machines with integrated grinding capability and Swiss-type turning centers. One manufacturer will feature 15 machines, including next-generation series models.
Industry experts note that IMTS represents the largest, most advanced shop in the world for that week. The show will also feature an emerging technology center, including a wire arc additive manufacturing cell developed in partnership with a national laboratory.
Government policy is driving investment momentum. The reinstatement of bonus depreciation and increased expensing limits are encouraging capital equipment purchases. Manufacturing technology orders grew in 2025 for the first time since 2021, and demand continues expanding across aerospace, defense, medical, energy, and data center infrastructure.
